  1. Saree – Sari is one of the most famous dresses in Indian ethnic wear and is loved and flaunted by almost every Indian woman. In fact, when someone thinks of an Indian woman, sari is the first thing which strikes the mind. It is worn with a bindi on the forehead and bangles and neckpiece. It is draped in various ways according to each Indian state. Sarees are worn by professors in schools and college as a code of uniform.
  2. Salwar Suit – Salwar Kameez is another famous traditional wear of women in India. Because of its popularity in the state of Punjab, it is sometimes also called the Punjabi suit. The salwar is a loose baggy pajama like trouser that has legs at the top wide and at the bottom narrow. The upper garment, the kameez, is a long tunic that often reaches till the knees. Its length may vary according to the latest trends. Salwar suits are worn by women of all ages but especially by married women, along with a dupatta around the neck, as a mark of modesty. It comes in various fabrics according to each season and also in various types. Two of the most popular types are the plazo suits and the anarkali suits. Plazo suits have a plazo like pant in place of the salwar whereas the anarkali suit resembles a long flowy gown with lots of flair and the legs are hidden.
  3. Lehenga Choli – A Lehenga is yet another traditional outfit worn by Indian women. Initially, in the olden days, women used to wear it on a daily basis. However, nowadays, it is reserved only for special occasions like a wedding or festival. The outfit comprises of a skirt or the lehenga, a blouse or the choli and a dupatta or a stole. Lehenga is up till ankle-length, draped around the woman’s waist, and choli or blouse is a midriff-showing piece, generally with tight sleeves and low neck and back. Dupatta or chunni is a stole kind of a piece, that can be slung around your neck or from a single shoulder shoulders.
